Kotook ↗
Senior Backend Engineer & Technical Lead
I own the architecture and end-to-end delivery of a real estate platform and internal CRM on AWS, from requirements through production.
- Set technical direction for a team of 8 developers, split product goals into parallel workstreams, run code reviews, and help new hires deliver independently.
- Built an in-page chatbot, agentic property comparison, personalized recommendations, and automated project-data validation and autocomplete, cutting reported data-entry errors by 15% and speeding up data entry.
- Cut backend p95 by 61%, p99 by 66%, and homepage API p95 by 95% while absorbing nearly 2.6x traffic on the same infrastructure.
- Shipped the Android and iOS apps solo with AI coding tools, using a shared Kotlin Multiplatform core, native SwiftUI and Android interfaces, and a page-aware AI assistant.
Works with Django · PostgreSQL · PostGIS · Redis · AWS · Sentry · Kotlin Multiplatform

Senior Backend Engineer
I replaced a legacy store stack while the commerce business stayed live.
- Replaced the WordPress store with Django REST and Next.js, improving speed and stability while staying reliable through an 18x traffic spike.
- Built core commerce workflows for multi-branch inventory, promotions, order-to-delivery, returns, after-sales service, and point-of-sale systems.
- Supported tens of thousands of products and thousands of monthly orders at 310 ms p95 and 560 ms p99, with a 0.005% 5xx rate across 18M+ server requests.
- Increased Google organic clicks by 43% and returning users by 18%, while reducing abandoned carts by 13%.
Works with Django REST · PostgreSQL · Next.js · Locust · Prometheus · Grafana · Loki
Faza Zaman Hormozgan
Backend Engineer & IT Manager
Over 4 years, I owned data modeling, API design, deployment, and support across several production systems.
- Proposed and delivered Android POS devices for bus management and citizen-card payments, replacing separate GPS and card-reader hardware and cutting deployment and maintenance costs.
- Built backend services for municipal levy calculation and payment, source-separated waste collection, and a tourism guide app.
- Designed the backend for a UHF RFID indoor tracking system that ingests gate reads and updates item locations, later presented at GITEX Global in Dubai.

Outside the day job
I learn by building the whole thing.
Open source · Backend & AI
VectorLens
An open-source backend for data storage, semantic text search, and image similarity search, with asynchronous processing, live progress updates, authentication, and multi-stage Docker builds.
Built with FastAPI · PostgreSQL · pgvector · Kafka · Celery · SSE · SigLIP 2
Open source · Observability
DjangoProMetric
An observability package that discovers Django and DRF endpoints and joins route-level traffic, performance, errors, and database signals in a protected dashboard, with automated onboarding and historical comparisons.
Integrates with Cloudflare · Sentry · PostgreSQL · ArvanCloud · custom providers

Predictive fault detection for industrial cooling equipment
My teammate and I built an end-to-end ML pipeline for the AI Star competition at Persian Gulf Star Oil Company. The system used vibration, sound, and temperature data to detect and classify failures in refinery cooling equipment.
Our 2-person team finished 2nd in the 2024 competition, hosted by Persian Gulf Star Oil Company, operator of the Middle East's largest gas condensate refinery.

What is actually slowing your database down?
↗A practical tour of ACID costs, B-Trees, LSM Trees, compaction, Bloom filters, and the trade-offs behind each one.
8 min readKafka is fast for surprisingly ordinary reasons
↗Sequential I/O, the page cache, and zero-copy explain most of the story. Here is how they fit together.
A little more context
I care about systems and the people who have to live with them.
I’ve spent 6+ years building and operating high-traffic Python systems across real estate, e-commerce, public services, and AI products. I still enjoy tracing a slow query, but I’m just as interested in making a code review useful or helping an engineer work independently.
I use AI where it solves a clear product problem: recommendations, chatbots, semantic and visual search, data-entry automation, and industrial fault detection.

Have a backend problem worth talking about?
I’m open to senior backend and technical-lead roles, especially where reliability, scale, or platform work matters. Remote works; relocation to the EU does too.
